What are the “fuel-efficient driving techniques” to maximize mileage while driving?

Maximizing mileage on your trip

Aggressive driving, such as rapid acceleration and excessive braking, can decrease your mileage by up to 33% on highways and 5% in city driving. Hiring a car for a day and driving efficiently can save you hundreds of rupees. It is also important to regularly check the pressure of your tires, as underinflated tires can reduce your fuel economy by up to 3%. Eye-on tire pressure is good before the trip.

Accelerate and brake smoothly

Accelerate as smoothly as possible with the car’s controls. Aggressive acceleration and braking are exciting, but this consumes more fuel. Overspeeding reduces your fuel economy by 7% to 14%. A steady speed and reduce your fuel consumption.

Turn off your engine to save fuel

Idling your vehicle can burn more fuel; even if it takes 30 seconds, turn off your engine. This is especially important in traffic, as idling can waste a significant amount of fuel.

If your vehicle has an automatic engine stop and start, leaving it active can maximize the fuel efficiency of your vehicle. If you are planning a trip and want to rent a self-driving car, choose a car with a convenient long drive.

Gearshift at the right speed

It’s important to maintain the correct gear-to-speed at around 2,000 rpm (or 1,500 rpm for diesel engines) for maximum speed and efficiency. Wrong gear can put a strain on your vehicle’s engine and lead to higher fuel consumption. So, practicing these techniques can help reduce fuel consumption

Avoid overloading: extra weight, extra fuel usage

Loading unnecessary items can decrease fuel economy by up to 10%, so it’s important to avoid carrying extra weight whenever possible.

Use air conditioning with open windows

Air conditioning while choosing a luxury car rental can decrease fuel economy by up to 10%. To improve fuel efficiency, it’s advised to let the windows open instead of using the AC for short trips and on mountains and hills. If you do need to use the AC, try using it alternatively to save fuel.

Plan your route wisely

While planning for a low-rent car for self-driving on your long road trip, it is important to save on fuel too. So take your time to map out your route carefully. Avoid highways with heavy traffic and look for alternate routes that may be more fuel-efficient. Fuel-efficient apps can be more useful for people to save money and time.

Very professional and helpful people. We hired one car from her for three days. Car was clean and in good driving conditions. Her place is on the way to Ooty and require a slight detour from Coimbatore-Ooty highway but she had honestly explained this to us before we decide to hire the car. I highly recommend her car rental service.
